Finding Reports, Alert List
Some simple search tips to find information quickly ....
In order to find titles listed in the database the MMRF provides a combination of quick links alerts, browsing by category and research type, and text search.
Rules of Thumb
- Check the Alert List ("New Arrivals") at least once a month. The Alert List is the easiest way of keeping track of new titles. All new titles pass the Alert List.
- Use category and research type browsing, if you are looking for in depth information, and if you would like to get an overview of competing products.
- Use text search for a quick check. For instance, if you would like to know, whether there are any market reports relating to coatings for plastics, you may wish to enter "plastics" as a search term when you search the subject area Coatings & Surface Finishing. If you are looking for the latest technology roadmaps in your subject area, simply enter "roadmap". Keep your search terms simple. Use only a single word, if you do not get a result for a two word search.
Quick Links Alert List
All new titles entering the database appear in an Alert List in which they are kept for a period of 30 days. There is one such list for each of the main subject areas. The list appears after clicking on "New Arrivals" in the subject area menu on the homepage. Another click on any title will bring up the full data record, highlighted in yellow, and the subcategory in which this record is listed. Each subject area Alert List contains between 20 and 30 new titles, at any one time.

Subcategories
We try to keep categories small in order to ensure that titles can easily be found just by browsing a category and we use multiple listings so that titles will not be missed because of the category they are listed in. Additionally, there exists a print function by which all titles in a category can be conveniently printed for offline review, and, last but not least, titles in each category can be searched and sorted according to
research type. Currently there exist ten such research types:
Special Reports,
Periodic Reports & Subscription Services,
Directories & Databases,
Conference Proceedings,
Handbooks,
Concise Industry Profiles,
Statistical Reports,
Events Diaries,
Online News Alerts and
Portals & Resource Links
Text Search
Text search is linked to the subject area you have chosen and will help you find key titles quickly when you enter a search term. You should abreviate longer terms in order to obtain a better result. For example, if you are looking for research on Fluoropolymers you should enter "fluoro", which would also find conference titles such as "FLUOROPLAST 2004".
Text search will not necessarily find you the one report you would order immediately. This is because some titles do not contain the search term you entered, despite the fact that they deal with your area of interest.
